Orbicular rhyolite is an igneous rock that was formed by lava flows on the earth’s surface. The spots or “orbs” in this mineral probably occurred when molten lava reacted with fragments of rock known as xenoliths. Rhyolites are extremely fine grained. This makes their mineral composition hard to identify except by sophisticated chemical techniques. The main constituents of rhyolite are quartz and feldspar.
